Why Raised Garden Beds?

I just recently picked up this super fun and unique, hexagon shaped Raised Bed from Sunnydaze Décor and I can't WAIT to get to plant in it. I even created a 9 second time lapse video showing how easy it was to set up- watch to the end to see my little garden helper!

Yes, I'm setting it up inside my house. Why? Because where I live, we still have 1-2 feet of snow on the ground which isn't normal for our area as we approach April! It's been a wild winter season and I feel like we are stuck in some twilight zone where the snow fall button is stuck 😅

But while I was building this bed, I thought it would be fun to write a quick informational blog on 3 ways using raised beds in your garden can be very helpful- not to mention its very satisfying to look at 😍

You may have heard about raised garden beds and maybe your wondering what all the hype is about over them.

So, Let's talk about the 3 ways why gardening in raised beds is beneficial!

1. Easier Soil Management- a raised bed lets you better control your soil in a smaller area. This makes any amending needed easier, especially if you are a beginner gardener.

Another benefit too, is that different fruits, vegetables and flowers can require different nutrients in the soil that will differ from the next. You can easily create the perfect soil for each bed, depending on the needs of what you are planting.

2. Better Weed Control! - The weeds can get out. of. control. FAST. We have done gardening straight in the ground, and we have done raised beds. And when we planted straight in the ground, the weeds got crazy! As the weather got warmer, the weeds thrived more and more.

At the start of the season, it was pretty easy to stay on top of weeding but then out of nowhere, the weeds just went wild. My husband, my kids, myself, every one of us would go out and spend 1 hour each, every day pulling weeds and we eventually could not keep up.

ENTER RAISED BEDS. They make weeding much easier to keep up with, all season long. And if you space them out wide enough, all you need to do is take a mini tiller between the beds and till when you need to manage the weeds there. You can also use mulch or fun gravel too! Let your creativity shine!

3. The third reason (but the list definitely still goes on!) my favorite reason, water! This one is a double benefit. Raised beds use less water! With a designated area for your plants to live, you use less water too. They will still get all the water they need when you're watering appropriately, you just don't have to worry about the extra ground cover all around them that will also soak up all that water you just gave to the plants. The double bonus here, you might have already thought up when you read this one. Saves MONEY! Your water bill will be significantly lower too. If you live in an area drought or prone to drought, you're doing your part in water conservation and still growing the food you love!

I highly encourage you to do more research into why raised beds may be a great option for you! You will be blown away with all the other great reasons to grow in raised beds! These are just a few of my own favorites! Raised garden beds make planting your favorite flowers, vegetables, and herbs possible in almost any location.

If you need a place to start looking for raised beds, check out here at Sunnydaze Decor. They have different designs and materials to choose from. They always ship free, and it always arrives fast! Very easy to put together and great customer service!

What I love about this Galvanized Steel Raised Garden Bed Kit in the Hexagon Raised Bed from Sunnydaze Decor, is that it was so simple to build. I didn't mess up at all! And I am notorious for having to take things apart and rebuild again when it comes to self-assembly. Not this design though.

The metal is galvanized, so it won't weather, and it is very thick and sturdy! I was surprised with the quality of this metal. There were also no sharp edges!! So, my little one was able to hang out and help me put this together without fear of either of us getting cut!
