I recently had the opportunity to try out Southside Market & Barbeque and this is what I thought!
What is Southside Market & Barbeque?
If you're into small town restaurants that are rich in more than just their cuisine, then you will love Southside Market and Barbeque!
Let's go over a quick summary of this amazing little eatery- it was started in Texas back in 1882 (No, that is not a type. How amazing right?) by William Moon. He started out much like my husband and I. Raising and slaughtering animals and selling the meat in town. In this time however, if he didn't sell it quickly, it would go bad due to lack of refrigeration technology. And if you have ever had to opportunity to raise out your own meat, you know how much work goes into this process getting the animal to table. So, this led to him creating smoked sausage and BBQ with his meats.
He opened his first brick and mortar store in the early 1900's. He was known in this small town as the local butcher who also sold BBQ in the back.
Fast forward and we meet Bud Frazier, a very trusted employee at Southside Market & BBQ. So trusted and loyal that William tried to offer Bud to take over his business on 2 separate occasions! Their deal never ended up working out and therefor was sold in 1942!
There was a couple more sales of this restaurant and moves after that. But this didn't slow down success for Southside Market & BBQ. They opened their second location more than 132 years later, in 2014.
2019 a location in Austin, TX and 2020 for a 4th location in Hutto TX!
What's incredible is that you can not only pop into these locations right now for a delicious BBQ meal, hire them for catering if you're in their area AND you can even get them delivered straight to your doorstep, ALL OVER THE COUNTRY! Which is what I did.
MY ACTUAL REVIEW!
So, what did I get?
They have a plethora of incredible smoked sausages and meats that I had a difficult time choosing. They've got briskets, turkey, at least a dozen different varieties of smoked sausages, steaks- literally something for everyone's down home BBQ tastes!
I tried out something very unique on their menu! Sausage Slammers *Is your mouth watering yet? because I'm nearly drooling on my keyboard as I recall my now tantalizing experience. *
With a fresh jalapeno, sliced in half and filled with real cheddar cheese, then stuffed inside a very tender, juicy and flavorful smoked sausage AND THEN..............its wrapped in bacon! (Bacon elevates everything doesn't it!)
The smoke flavor of these bacon wrapped jalapeno and cheddar stuffed sausages is on the mild side. Its perfectly delicate smoke mixed with the seasonings of the sausage and bacon- it was a delightfully perfect combination. No flavor from one ingredient overpowered the other, so you can taste everything all at once. It was great!
For level of heat, this did vary slightly as different jalapenos tend to have different levels on spicey on their own. If you cannot tolerate any level of heat, I recommend you opt for their Original Beef Smoked Sausage.
If you enjoy spice, give these Sausage Slammers a try! I had one that bit back (that was my favorite!) and I had one that was on the milder side. Overall, very tasty, and highly recommended!
These stuffed sausages come precooked and frozen with very quick and easy heating instructions. They make for the perfect meal that you need to whip up in a hurry too. I threw mine in the air fryer at 400 degrees for about 13 minutes and served them with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans.
Some other side ideas to serve with these are:
Potato Salad
Corn Bread
Baked Beans
Salad
**Threw the month of March, you can purchase the Sausage Slammers for $10 as an add-on order to your online order! This is a great time to jump on and try out some of their meats and find what you and your family love! **
