FIRST YEAR OF RV LIFE
Ok...so, here we go. Let's time travel back to July of 2015. We bought our 5th wheel! We paid cash, and things were starting to get real and exciting. However, to do this debt free, there was still a looooong road ahead of us. Have you ever made a large purchase on something you wanted, only to find you we’re burdened with that gut wrenching feeling of buyer's remorse? You know, those thoughts of ‘should I have just bought this?’ or ‘oh man, I’m regretting this already!’......

We had the complete opposite feeling! We were ecstatic, to say the least. We drove our nused (new-used) 5th wheel about a mile down the road from the house we just sold, to our friends' property. We had made a small arrangement to set up temporarily on his land, which already was set up with all the utilities to attach an RV up to. We then begin our next stage to our debt free lifestyle.
When we moved in, our occupants included myself, my husband Alex, and our 3 kids. Travis was 9 years old, Taylor 8 years old and Garen about 5 months old! To give you an idea of the amount space we had, I was able to have one of the baby walkers that they sit in and walk around in, in the camper with plenty of room for him to ‘walk’ around the place. We definitely were not cramped, respectivly.
It was a very easy transition to make- to my surprise, considering we were not having to make any sacrifices as far as utilities go. We had all the amenities- including internet. I even used my washer and dryer that came equipped in the 5th wheel, granted it was on the smaller side, so blankets had to be washed at the local laundromat at in town. But I at least could wash up to 3 pairs of jeans at a time lol. To stay on top of our clothes I would do a couple loads each day.
Let’s fast forward to 1year later.
We finally had saved up enough money that we could start to watch the market for vacant land. We still did have a budget to stick to if we wanted to pay in cash. Of course, we always have a champagne taste on a beer budget. So, we avoided the pieces that were over the amount we had saved up for the last year or so.
One day I was doing a search and came across 5 acres of virgin land about 20 minutes outside the town we were living in. This is when the excitement kicked in and the reality of our hard work was looking like it would start to pay off!
We drove out there as quickly as we could when we discovered this piece. Around here, land this cheap didn’t hang around the market long.
When we arrived, it was in a nice location, no neighbors that were too close, and we notice that the property had beautiful, tall, thriving green grass that covered the entire 5-acre lot! There was no irrigation water but by the looks of the ground covering and it being close to the month of June now, we knew this would be the perfect place to still be able to feed and raise livestock for a lengthy time throughout year without too much supplementation, seeing how great the pasture was as-is.
We were not super loving the bit longer distanced drive to town, but it was in our price range WITH left over funding to spare to get things rolling quicker and settled in.
As we drove back to town, we called my boss, who also happened to be our real estate agent and put in our offer.
To our joyful surprise, they accepted. And since we were paying cash, we were able to close on our new 5 acres in less than 2 weeks!! Now, the fun is really starting to begin! And that feeling of thinking we would never see this day was unfolding in front of our very own eyes!
